Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong downtown event base, provided you can trade room space and quiet for location. A sociable 3-star downtown hotel with compact rooms in the historic Luhrs Building, scored for what it is.

Moxy Phoenix Downtown is a sociable 3-star in the historic Luhrs Building, and we'd pick it for a short, car-light downtown stay. Chase Field, the arena and restaurants are walkable, with light rail close by. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the location, clean rooms and friendly staff; the lobby bar and games give it more personality than a conventional business hotel.

The compromise is upstairs: rooms are genuinely compact, and recent Expedia guests mention missing mini-fridges and limited storage or workspace. Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews also flag street, light-rail or mechanical noise, so request a quieter room rather than assuming one. On-site parking is paid valet, breakfast costs extra, and Marriott lists housekeeping every other day. It's a strong fit for event weekends and solo trips; we'd skip it for a spacious, reliably quiet extended stay.

• Best for: Concert and sports weekends; Solo travelers on short stays; Car-light downtown trips

• Watch out for: Compact rooms with limited storage; Street, light-rail and mechanical noise; Paid valet and breakfast

• Location: Walkable to downtown venues, restaurants and the convention center, with light rail nearby.

• Rooms: Comfortable but compact; recent guests report no mini-fridges and limited workspace.

• Cleanliness: Broadly praised across booking sites; Marriott lists housekeeping every other day.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff dominate the broader feedback, despite some negative individual reports.

• Amenities: Lobby bar, games, fitness room and grab-and-go food; no airport shuttle.

• Fees and surprises: On-site parking is paid valet; breakfast is not complimentary.
