Axel's take: 8.7/10
A dependable Paso base with strong cleanliness, friendly staff and useful extras. A comfortable 3-star, motel-style hotel near the Paso Robles Event Center, scored for what it is.
Best Western Plus Black Oak is a comfortable 3-star, motel-style hotel that gets the important things right. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, comfortable beds and helpful staff. Free parking, in-room fridges and microwaves, and a heated pool, hot tub and sauna make it a strong pick for road trips, families and wine-country visits. The Event Center and highway access are particularly handy.
The trade-offs are mostly practical: rooms open onto exterior corridors, and this is a driving-friendly base rather than a stay right on the downtown square. Breakfast at Margie's Diner costs extra, so don't expect the usual included chain-hotel buffet. A few guests mention room odors, though cleanliness feedback remains overwhelmingly positive. We'd skip it if you want boutique atmosphere or downtown dining immediately outside your door.
