Axel's take: 7.0/10

A practical budget stop, but room condition and soundproofing are uneven. a no-frills 2-star motel north of downtown Paso Robles, scored for what it is.

Best Way Inn is a no-frills 2-star motel that makes sense for a short, budget-minded Paso Robles stay. Recent Expedia and Hotels.com guests frequently praise clean, comfortable rooms, easy parking and helpful check-in. Refrigerators, microwaves and an outdoor pool add useful basics, and the fairgrounds are within walking distance. We'd consider it for an overnight stop rather than a hotel-centered getaway.

The catch is consistency. Older Tripadvisor feedback is substantially worse than recent booking-site reviews, while Google guests still report uneven cleaning and maintenance. Thin walls also recur across sources, although plenty of visitors describe quiet stays. Downtown's main dining and tasting-room cluster is a short drive rather than right outside. We'd skip it if you're sensitive to noise or expect reliably polished rooms; pet owners should confirm room restrictions before booking.

  • Best for: budget-minded overnight stops; fairgrounds visitors; road-trippers with a car

  • Watch out for: thin walls and occasional noisy heating; uneven room upkeep and cleaning; pet-room restrictions require confirmation

  • Location: North of the downtown core, convenient for the fairgrounds and a short drive to Downtown City Park.

  • Rooms: Simple rooms with refrigerators and microwaves; comfort earns praise, but worn fixtures and noise recur.

  • Cleanliness: Recent booking-site feedback is mostly positive, but Google reviews show that standards are not uniform.

  • Service: Recent guests often praise friendly, straightforward check-in; older feedback is less consistent.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, free parking, free Wi-Fi and garden/picnic space; no elevator.

  • Fees and surprises: Pets incur a fee; the official site restricts them to smoking rooms with advance approval.
