An excellent base for Louvre days and sightseeing on both banks.

• The block: The door opens onto rue des Prêtres-Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois, facing the church's right flank rather than a busy shopping boulevard. The Seine is a block away. The Louvre is 2 minutes on foot, though reaching the museum isn't the same as clearing its entrance; Sainte-Chapelle is 10 minutes on foot.
• Getting around: Walk for central sightseeing; use Louvre-Rivoli on line 1 or Pont-Neuf on line 7 for longer hops. Châtelet-les-Halles connects with the RER B for Charles de Gaulle and line 14 for Orly. The Eiffel Tower is a transit trip rather than a sensible extension of a Louvre stroll: 26 minutes by transit.
