Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong downtown base, with a pleasant pool and modest resort ambitions. a relaxed 3-star pool hotel in downtown Palm Springs, scored for what it is.

Palm Mountain is a relaxed 3-star pool hotel, not a full-service luxury resort, and we'd choose it for exploring downtown on foot. Palm Canyon Drive's restaurants and shops are a block away, while landscaped courtyards and mountain views give it a more leisurely feel. The hotel says guestrooms have been renovated; recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise spacious, clean rooms, comfortable beds and welcoming staff.

The trade-offs are limited services and some lingering older-hotel details. There's no full-service restaurant or on-site gym, a resort fee applies, and weak shower pressure crops up across review sites. Management acknowledged disruptive pool-deck resurfacing in August 2026; October guests praise the pool, but confirm completion before a pool-focused trip. We'd skip it if polished bathrooms, poolside service and extensive resort facilities matter more than location.

• Best for: couples exploring downtown on foot; travelers wanting pool time between outings; families seeking a central base

• Watch out for: resort fee despite limited full-service facilities; recurring reports of weak shower pressure; confirm August pool-deck work is complete

• Location: A block from Palm Canyon Drive, with restaurants, shops and the art museum within easy walking distance.

• Rooms: Renovated guestrooms earn praise for space and comfortable beds, though some older details and shower-pressure issues remain.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall: recent guests repeatedly describe clean rooms, supported by high cleanliness ratings on Expedia and Booking.com.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength, although complaint handling is not uniformly praised.

• Amenities: Temperature-controlled pool, hot tub, spa and guest bikes; gym access is off-site and dining is limited to a marketplace.

• Fees and surprises: Resort fee applies and is included in the hotel's stated nightly price; complimentary parking is limited, and airport-shuttle hours need checking.
