#5 of 7 hotels in Tennis Club by Axel's take. Tennis Club is #1 of 5 places to stay in Palm Springs. The best hotels in Tennis Club, ranked · Where to stay in Palm Springs

Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong pick for old-Hollywood character and poolside calm, with a few service gaps. A historic, adults-only 4-star boutique estate near downtown Palm Springs, scored for what it is.

Ingleside Estate is a historic, adults-only 4-star boutique hotel whose appeal is character rather than contemporary polish. We'd pick it for a relaxed couples' escape: landscaped grounds, a peaceful pool, downtown within walking distance, and dinner or cocktails at Melvyn's. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, clean rooms and intimate atmosphere; access to Avalon's neighboring pools, gym and spa adds useful breadth.

The trade-offs matter at this level. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests describe occasional slow breakfast or poolside service, while some flag tired finishes or uncomfortable mattresses—not the dominant experience, but worth noting. There's a daily amenity fee, parking is off-site, and daily housekeeping must be requested. We'd skip it for families or anyone expecting uniformly modern rooms and seamless full-service luxury.

  • Best for: Couples seeking a quiet escape; Historic-hotel enthusiasts; Adults who want walkable downtown dining

  • Watch out for: Occasional slow breakfast and poolside service; Some reports of worn finishes or uncomfortable mattresses; Daily amenity fee; daily housekeeping on request

  • Location: Walkable to downtown restaurants while retaining a generally quiet, tucked-away setting.

  • Rooms: Individually styled historic rooms and suites; comfort draws praise, but condition and mattress feedback vary.

  • Cleanliness: Consistently strong guest feedback across Expedia and Booking.com.

  • Service: Warm, helpful staff are a recurring strength; food-and-beverage service is less consistent.

  • Amenities: Pool, hot tub and Melvyn's on-site; additional pools, fitness facilities and Estrella Spa at neighboring Avalon.

  • Fees and surprises: Adults 18+ only; daily amenity fee, off-site parking, pet cleaning fee and daily housekeeping by request.
