#4 of 4 hotels in Holmenkollen by Axel's take. Holmenkollen is #12 of 12 places to stay in Oslo. The best hotels in Holmenkollen, ranked · Where to stay in Oslo

Axel's take: 8.1/10

Come for the fjord views and forest trails, not polished four-star rooms. a hillside 4-star hotel and conference venue above Oslo, scored for what it is.

Voksenåsen is a hillside 4-star hotel and conference venue that makes more sense as a nature break than a downtown base. We'd pick it for the Oslofjord views, forest trails outside the door and relaxed communal spaces. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise the friendly staff and breakfast, while cleanliness ratings remain strong. It's a good fit if walking or cross-country skiing matters more than city-centre convenience.

The recurring compromise is the accommodation: Tripadvisor and Expedia guests describe small rooms, cramped bathrooms and some dated finishes. There's no elevator, and returning from Voksenkollen metro means an uphill walk; allow roughly an hour for central Oslo trips. Parking costs extra, and the outdoor pool is summer-only. We'd skip it for spacious, polished rooms, step-free access without advance arrangements, or a sightseeing-heavy city break.

  • Best for: walkers and cross-country skiers; couples seeking quiet and views; travelers happy to stay outside central Oslo

  • Watch out for: small rooms and cramped bathrooms; uphill metro walk and lengthy city trips; no elevator; confirm accessible room arrangements

  • Location: Forest setting above Holmenkollen; Voksenkollen metro is about 700 metres downhill.

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds earn praise, but compact layouts and dated bathrooms recur in reviews.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness ratings outweigh scattered housekeeping complaints.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a consistent strength across guest-review sites.

  • Amenities: Breakfast included; sauna, gym, library and seasonal outdoor pool, closed outside summer.

  • Fees and surprises: Overnight parking and EV charging cost extra; Expedia lists housekeeping on request.
