#6 of 9 hotels in Karl Johan & Stortinget by Axel's take. Karl Johan & Stortinget is #1 of 12 places to stay in Oslo. The best hotels in Karl Johan & Stortinget, ranked · Where to stay in Oslo

Axel's take: 7.7/10

A handy Oslo base with a strong breakfast, but room choice matters. a practical mid-range chain hotel in central Oslo, scored for what it is.

Scandic Victoria is a practical mid-range chain hotel whose strongest selling point is central Oslo on your doorstep. We'd pick it for sightseeing rather than a special-occasion stay: Karl Johans gate, the waterfront and public transport are close, and Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the breakfast. Rooms generally earn good marks for comfort and cleanliness, with helpful staff another frequent positive.

The compromises are uneven room appeal and service consistency. Recent Tripadvisor guests describe some tired bathrooms and dim rooms overlooking the enclosed breakfast atrium; several also report having to request housekeeping. Others found their rooms spacious, clean and quiet, so this isn't a uniformly disappointing property. Confirm breakfast inclusion and cleaning arrangements, and request an outward-facing room if daylight matters. We'd skip it if polished interiors and reliably attentive service are priorities.

  • Best for: first-time Oslo sightseers; car-free city breaks; travelers who prioritize breakfast

  • Watch out for: dim atrium-facing rooms; confirm housekeeping arrangements; paid garage with tight access

  • Location: Excellent central base near Karl Johans gate, City Hall and waterfront attractions.

  • Rooms: Generally comfortable; some guests find bathrooms tired and atrium-facing rooms short on daylight.

  • Cleanliness: Good overall ratings, although recent guests report missed or request-only housekeeping.

  • Service: Often friendly and helpful, but reception and follow-through receive mixed feedback.

  • Amenities: Breakfast buffet, 24-hour gym, free Wi-Fi and a small 24-hour shop.

  • Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; the separately operated garage costs extra and cannot be reserved.
