Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong-value Universal base for families, provided you can tolerate some noise. A budget-friendly 3-star Universal hotel with family suites and park shuttles, scored for what it is.

Surfside is a beach-themed, budget-friendly 3-star Universal hotel, and we'd put it high on the list for park-focused families. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise clean rooms, helpful staff and convenient park shuttles. The two-bedroom suites sleep six in three proper queen beds, making them particularly practical for larger families. Early Park Admission adds useful value, while the surfboard-shaped pool gives everyone somewhere to unwind afterward.

The main compromise is soundproofing: Tripadvisor guests repeatedly mention hearing neighbors and corridor traffic, and poolside music can carry into rooms. Request a room away from the pool if quiet matters, though that won't guarantee silence. Dining is mainly casual cafeteria-style, parking costs extra, and Universal Express Unlimited isn't included. It's a strong pick for comfortable basics between park days; we'd skip it for a quiet retreat or full-service resort experience.

• Best for: Families needing three proper beds; Budget-conscious Universal visitors; Park-focused trips without a car

• Watch out for: Neighbor, corridor and poolside noise; Paid overnight parking; No included Universal Express Unlimited

• Location: Near International Drive restaurants and shops; complimentary shuttles make Universal park access straightforward.

• Rooms: Simple, beach-themed rooms; suites sleep six, with one queen bed in a separate bedroom.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness feedback across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff are a consistent strength in guest feedback.

• Amenities: Surfboard-shaped pool, splash pad, gym, casual café, Starbucks and free basic Wi-Fi.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and breakfast cost extra; Early Park Admission requires valid admission and has restrictions.
