Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong self-catering base for Manhattan visits, with limited housekeeping and some rail noise. A no-frills extended-stay hotel with full kitchens near the Jersey City waterfront, scored for what it is.

Sonesta Simply Suites is a no-frills extended-stay hotel whose strongest selling points are practical: spacious suites, proper kitchens and a waterfront neighborhood within walking distance of PATH trains. We'd pick it for longer visits when cooking and spreading out matter more than hotel extras. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and helpful staff, while Booking.com's strong overall rating supports that positive picture. It's good value for travelers comfortable staying across the river from Manhattan.

The trade-offs are the limited-service setup and potential noise. Sonesta schedules weekly full cleaning for stays longer than seven days, rather than daily housekeeping. Light-rail noise bothers some guests; light sleepers should request a room away from the tracks. A July 2026 Expedia guest also reported nearby construction, so check before booking. Parking costs extra. We'd skip it if daily service or stepping straight into Manhattan is essential.

• Best for: Longer stays and self-catering travelers; Families wanting extra space; Manhattan visitors comfortable using PATH

• Watch out for: Limited housekeeping rather than daily cleaning; Light-rail noise in some rooms; Paid parking; check nearby construction

• Location: Near the Hudson waterfront; guests generally describe a 10–15-minute walk to PATH.

• Rooms: Spacious, practical suites with full kitchens; sound insulation receives mixed feedback.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall guest feedback, with occasional housekeeping oversights rather than a consistent problem.

• Service: Recent reviews mostly praise helpful staff, although some guests report a chilly reception.

• Amenities: Full kitchens, free Wi-Fi, on-site laundry, a 24-hour gym and a small convenience shop.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and pets incur fees; weekly full cleaning applies to stays longer than seven days.
