Spacious, well-kept rooms make this a strong Bronx pick, with location caveats. a historic 3-star boutique hotel in the South Bronx, scored for what it is.

Opera House Hotel is a historic 3-star boutique hotel in the South Bronx, and a strong pick for comfort and value if the location suits your plans. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spacious rooms, comfortable beds, cleanliness and helpful staff. The former theater adds character without changing the practical appeal: rooms have fridges and microwaves, while continental breakfast, all-day coffee and afternoon snacks are included.

The main compromise is outside. Guests across both sites describe litter, panhandling and street activity that leave some uncomfortable, particularly at night; others report no problems. The nearby subway makes Manhattan accessible, but this isn't a walk-out-the-door sightseeing base. Breakfast is simple, and Expedia lists a nightly resort fee and a deposit. We'd skip it if a polished neighborhood or doorstep Manhattan attractions matter more than room space.

• Best for: Bronx visits and Yankees trips; Value-minded subway users; Travelers prioritizing room space

• Watch out for: Surrounding streets unsettle some guests; Nightly resort fee; Simple continental breakfast

• Location: About three minutes from 3 Av–149 St subway; neighborhood comfort divides guests.

• Rooms: Guests consistently praise generous space and comfortable beds; fridges and microwaves are provided.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews, despite occasional exceptions.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming staff earn repeated praise, with occasional reports of poor follow-through.

• Amenities: Continental breakfast, round-the-clock coffee and tea, afternoon snacks and a fitness center.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a nightly resort fee, a stay deposit and paid nearby parking; onsite spaces are limited.
