Axel's take: 8.5/10

A dependable Midtown base with comfortable rooms and warm service, but dated styling. a traditional upscale 4-star in Midtown Manhattan, scored for what it is.

Omni Berkshire Place is a traditional upscale 4-star between Fifth and Madison avenues, and a strong pick for travelers who prioritize comfort over fashionable design. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the helpful doormen, housekeeping, comfortable beds and room sizes by Manhattan standards. Cleanliness is a consistent strength, and the location makes MoMA, Rockefeller Center and Fifth Avenue shopping easy to reach on foot.

The trade-off is a hotel that can feel old-fashioned rather than fresh: dated décor recurs in reviews, and guests also flag missing in-room coffee makers and refrigerators unless requested. The mandatory daily destination charge weakens the value proposition, with parking charged separately. A gym, Berk’s Bar and a guest terrace overlooking St. Patrick’s Cathedral round out the offering. We'd choose it for sightseeing or Midtown business, but skip it if contemporary interiors and plentiful included extras matter most.

• Best for: first-time Manhattan visitors; Midtown business travelers; travelers prioritizing room comfort

• Watch out for: mandatory daily destination charge; dated room décor; request coffee makers and refrigerators

• Location: Between Fifth and Madison, within easy walking distance of MoMA, Rockefeller Center and subway stations.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and good space for Manhattan; traditional furnishings can feel dated.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across sites, with housekeeping frequently praised.

• Service: Doormen and housekeeping stand out; front-desk feedback is mostly positive.

• Amenities: 24-hour gym, Berk’s Bar and a shared 17th-floor terrace with cathedral views.

• Fees and surprises: Daily destination charge, incidental deposit and separate valet-parking charges; refrigerators are on request.
