Axel's take: 7.8/10

Excellent family facilities, but service and extras take the shine off. a sprawling upscale beachfront casino resort on Cable Beach, scored for what it is.

Grand Hyatt Baha Mar is a sprawling upscale beachfront casino resort, strongest for families who want plenty to do without leaving the grounds. We'd pick it for Baha Bay waterpark access, the pool choices and extensive dining. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the beach, attractive grounds and generally clean, comfortable rooms. The facilities are the draw, rather than consistently polished luxury service.

The trade-offs are expensive meals, daily resort and service charges, and uneven hospitality: recent feedback ranges from genuinely helpful staff to slow dining and frustrating problem handling. Hyatt also lists housekeeping every other day, with daily service available on request, subject to availability. Baha Mar's fourth-hotel expansion at the former Melia site has broken ground; disturbance at Grand Hyatt isn't established. We'd skip it for an intimate, quiet escape or tightly controlled spending.

• Best for: families who prioritize waterparks; travelers wanting extensive resort facilities; casino and restaurant enthusiasts

• Watch out for: expensive dining and daily extra charges; inconsistent service and housekeeping; fourth-hotel expansion nearby; disturbance unclear

• Location: Directly on Cable Beach, with the beach and resort facilities stronger draws than sightseeing on foot.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and well received, though some recent guests report maintenance shortcomings.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness ratings, despite some recent housekeeping lapses.

• Service: Many guests praise individual staff, but slow or indifferent service recurs across review sites.

• Amenities: Extensive pools, included Baha Bay access, casino, gym, spa and golf; some experiences cost extra.

• Fees and surprises: Daily resort and service charges apply; housekeeping is every other day, and nearby expansion warrants checking.
