#7 of 9 hotels in Colaba by Axel's take. Colaba is #2 of 9 places to stay in Mumbai. The best hotels in Colaba, ranked · Where to stay in Mumbai

Axel's take: 6.3/10

Convenient for Colaba sightseeing, but room quality and basic maintenance are uneven. a basic budget hotel on an upper floor in Colaba, scored for what it is.

The Majlis is a basic budget hotel on the fifth floor behind Gulf Hotel, not the Taj Mahal Palace linked in the catalog. Its strongest selling point is location: Colaba Causeway, restaurants and the Gateway of India are within walking distance. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests often praise helpful reception staff, and some report clean, comfortable rooms. We'd consider it for a short sightseeing stay, rather than choose it for the hotel itself.

The compromises go beyond simple decor. Recent reviews across Trip.com, Expedia and ixigo describe small or windowless rooms, bathroom odors, unreliable hot water and disruptive noise. Cleanliness gets mixed feedback, rather than consistent reassurance. The entrance can be difficult to find, and guests describe an old-fashioned lift. We'd skip it if daylight, quiet sleep or dependable bathroom conditions are priorities; confirm the exact room and window before booking.

Best for: budget-minded Colaba sightseers; short stays with limited hotel time
Watch out for: small or windowless rooms; bathroom odors and inconsistent hot water; awkward entrance and reported noise
Location: Walkable to Colaba Causeway and the Gateway of India; the side-street entrance can be confusing.
Rooms: Basic air-conditioned rooms; size, daylight and maintenance vary considerably.
Cleanliness: Some guests praise clean rooms, but bathroom odors and housekeeping complaints recur.
Service: Reception often earns praise, though complaint handling is less consistent.
Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, a lift and 24-hour reception are listed; no on-site parking.
Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; the supplied website belongs to the Taj Mahal Palace, not this hotel.
