#3 of 9 hotels in Colaba by Axel's take. Colaba is #2 of 9 places to stay in Mumbai. The best hotels in Colaba, ranked · Where to stay in Mumbai

Axel's take: 8.3/10

A strong Colaba sightseeing base, with standout staff and renovation questions worth checking. A straightforward mid-range hotel in Colaba, near the Gateway of India, scored for what it is.

Suba Palace is a straightforward mid-range hotel whose biggest assets are its walkable Colaba location and consistently praised staff. We'd pick it for exploring South Mumbai without paying for nearby luxury-hotel extras. Tripadvisor, Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise welcoming service, clean rooms and comfortable beds. The Gateway of India, museums and Colaba's cafés are close enough to make sightseeing easy, while family rooms offer an option for travelers needing more space.

The caveat is renovation disruption: March–April 2026 guests reported façade work, boarded windows, daytime noise and a rooftop closure. Later reviews are positive, but completion isn't confirmed, so ask about your specific room and rooftop access before committing. Street noise can also intrude, and breakfast variety divides opinion. We'd skip it if guaranteed quiet or polished leisure facilities matter more than location and helpful service.

  • Best for: First-time Mumbai sightseers; Couples exploring Colaba; Families wanting a central base

  • Watch out for: Confirm façade-work status and rooftop access; Street noise in some rooms; Breakfast variety gets mixed feedback

  • Location: Excellent walking base for the Gateway of India, museums, cafés and Colaba shopping.

  • Rooms: Generally comfortable; family and connecting options exist, but room size and noise exposure vary.

  • Cleanliness: Consistently praised across recent reviews, with no dominant recurring cleanliness problem.

  • Service: Warm, attentive front-desk, housekeeping and restaurant teams are the clearest recurring strength.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, 24-hour room service and free Wi-Fi; Expedia lists a gym, but confirm rooftop access.

  • Fees and surprises: Official site lists paid parking despite Expedia advertising it free; confirm parking and renovation status directly.
