#6 of 9 hotels in Pacific Grove by Axel's take. Pacific Grove is #3 of 6 places to stay in Monterey, California. The best hotels in Pacific Grove, ranked · Where to stay in Monterey, California

Axel's take: 7.5/10

Come for the coastal location, not polished rooms or guaranteed quiet. A basic 2-star coastal motel in Pacific Grove, scored for what it is.

Lovers Point Inn is a basic 2-star motel across the street from Pacific Grove’s Lovers Point Beach and Park. It’s a good pick for budget-conscious travelers who prioritize coastal walks over hotel comforts. Recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise clean rooms and friendly, helpful staff; Tripadvisor feedback also makes the location its strongest selling point. Free parking, microwaves and mini-fridges add practical value, and selected balcony rooms have ocean views.

The trade-offs are real: rooms remain dated despite some updates, bathrooms can be small, and thin walls and overhead footsteps draw recurring complaints across sites. There’s no air-conditioning, and the underground garage is tight for larger vehicles. Recent guests describe room updates, but the extent and schedule are unclear. We’d choose it for a short coastal break, but skip it if you’re a light sleeper or want consistently modern rooms.

  • Best for: Budget-conscious coastal getaways; Beachgoers and walking enthusiasts; Short stays exploring Pacific Grove

  • Watch out for: Thin walls and overhead footsteps; No air-conditioning; Tight underground parking

  • Location: Across the street from Lovers Point Beach and Park, with coastal trails and restaurants nearby.

  • Rooms: Basic and often dated, with some recent updates; ocean views depend on the room booked.

  • Cleanliness: Recent feedback is predominantly positive, though occasional housekeeping complaints appear.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk staff are a consistent strength in recent reviews.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi and parking, an elevator, and in-room microwaves, mini-fridges and coffeemakers.

  • Fees and surprises: Rollaway beds cost extra; parking can be restrictive, and the room-update schedule is unconfirmed.
