Axel's take: 8.8/10

Warm service and spacious luxury shine, but ongoing restoration limits the full resort experience. a sprawling 5-star beachfront resort with suites and staffed villas, scored for what it is.

Half Moon is a sprawling 5-star beachfront resort, strongest for travelers who want space, attentive service and relaxed days rather than nonstop entertainment. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests consistently praise the staff, cleanliness and comfortable accommodations, with recent Eclipse stays drawing particularly strong feedback. We'd pick it for couples wanting quiet luxury or families sharing a staffed villa; the spa, golf, tennis and equestrian facilities give active travelers plenty to do.

The important caveat is ongoing hurricane restoration. Eclipse and the villas reopened on April 2, 2026, but the hotel's current update still places Founders Cove in a later reopening phase, and recent guests report construction and unavailable facilities. Confirm exactly what's operating before booking. Dining is expensive, food feedback is mixed, and resort and service charges add to the bill. We'd skip it for an all-inclusive budget or lively nightlife.

• Best for: couples seeking quiet luxury; families sharing staffed villas; active resort travelers

• Watch out for: Founders Cove restoration and facility closures; expensive dining and additional charges; quiet evenings

• Location: Extensive beachfront grounds near Montego Bay airport; better for a resort stay than exploring on foot.

• Rooms: Eclipse accommodations earn strong praise for comfort and condition; restored villas offer private pools and dedicated staff.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Tripadvisor and Expedia, including recent post-reopening stays.

• Service: Warm, attentive staff are the most consistently praised part of the experience.

• Amenities: Pool, swimming coves, spa, golf, tennis and equestrian facilities are open; the full resort remains in phased restoration.

• Fees and surprises: Not all-inclusive; the official FAQ lists a 10% resort fee and 15% service charge, plus taxes.
