Axel's take: 8.3/10

Strong on character and comfort, less convincing for downtown walkability. a historic 4-star Art Deco hotel west of downtown, scored for what it is.

The Ambassador is a historic 4-star Art Deco hotel west of downtown, and a strong pick if character matters more than contemporary polish. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spacious rooms, comfortable beds and welcoming staff; cleanliness is generally a strength. The period lobby and well-liked restaurant and bar give it more personality than a standard chain hotel.

The main compromise is location: this is near Marquette, not in the downtown sightseeing core. Its free local shuttle helps, particularly for games, though Tripadvisor reports suggest confirming arrangements rather than assuming immediate rides. Some recent guests also describe worn carpets and maintenance lapses—enough to temper luxury expectations, not overturn the broadly positive picture. Parking and breakfast cost extra. We'd skip it for a fully walkable downtown weekend or uniformly modern rooms.

• Best for: Art Deco and historic-hotel fans; Marquette visitors; Baseball fans using the local shuttle

• Watch out for: Outside the downtown sightseeing core; Some worn finishes and maintenance inconsistencies; Paid parking and breakfast

• Location: Near Marquette, west of downtown; better with the shuttle or other transport than for an all-walking stay.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable, with period styling; some recent guests report tired carpets or finishes.

• Cleanliness: Mostly praised across sources, with a minority of recent carpet and bathroom-cleaning complaints.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are a recurring strength; shuttle experiences are mostly positive but not unanimous.

• Amenities: On-site dining, a bar, a 24-hour gym and a free local shuttle covering a three-mile radius.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and cooked-to-order breakfast are extra; Wyndham specifies free Wi-Fi for Rewards members.
