#7 of 9 hotels in Downtown & Deer District by Axel's take. Downtown & Deer District is #2 of 5 places to stay in Milwaukee. The best hotels in Downtown & Deer District, ranked · Where to stay in Milwaukee

Axel's take: 8.1/10

A practical downtown base where friendly service outweighs some old-building compromises. A limited-service 3-star in a historic downtown building, scored for what it is.

This limited-service 3-star occupies Milwaukee’s historic Straus Building, and we’d pick it for a downtown trip where location and helpful staff matter more than extensive facilities. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming team, clean rooms and included hot breakfast. The location works well for Fiserv Forum events, convention visits and meals at nearby 3rd Street Market Hall. It’s a strong, straightforward base rather than a destination hotel.

The compromises are room size, occasional street noise and uneven cosmetic upkeep: some guests describe updated rooms, while others mention worn finishes. Parking also costs extra and is off-site, with valet available. We’d skip it if spacious rooms, reliably quiet nights or extensive amenities are priorities; otherwise, the service and walkable setting make a convincing case.

  • Best for: Concert and basketball visitors; Convention travelers; Car-free downtown weekends

  • Watch out for: Some compact rooms; Street noise in some rooms; Paid off-site parking

  • Location: Walkable downtown setting near Fiserv Forum, the convention center and 3rd Street Market Hall.

  • Rooms: Generally comfortable, but some are compact; guest reports differ on how fresh the finishes feel.

  • Cleanliness: A consistent strength overall, with strong aggregate cleanliness ratings and repeated recent praise.

  • Service: Friendly, accommodating staff are the clearest recurring highlight across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

  • Amenities: Included hot breakfast, fitness center, convenience store and guest laundry cover the practical basics.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking is paid and off-site; valet is available. Pets are now welcome with a nonrefundable fee and limits.
