Axel's take: 6.5/10

A handy beach base, but housekeeping and maintenance need more consistency. a basic, self-service Art Deco hotel near South Beach, scored for what it is.

Claremont is a basic Art Deco hotel with a largely self-service setup, rather than the conventional Hampton stay older listings suggest. Its strongest asset is the address: the beach, Lincoln Road and plenty of restaurants are within easy walking distance. We'd consider it for a short, location-first stay. Recent Expedia guests often praise clean rooms and helpful staff, while in-room fridges and microwaves add practical convenience.

The trade-offs are substantial. Across Expedia, Tripadvisor and Booking-linked reviews, guests repeatedly describe irregular housekeeping, limited staff availability and uneven room maintenance; others report straightforward, comfortable stays. Noise from the downstairs restaurant and nightlife also comes up. The rooftop pool is a bonus, but confirm availability before booking. We'd skip it if dependable daily cleaning, quiet nights or full-service support matter more than location.

• Best for: independent travelers prioritizing location; short beach breaks without a car

• Watch out for: irregular housekeeping and limited staffing; uneven room condition; restaurant and nightlife noise

• Location: Walkable Collins Avenue address near the beach, Lincoln Road and convention center.

• Rooms: Simple rooms with fridges and microwaves; maintenance and noise isolation are inconsistent.

• Cleanliness: Many guests find rooms clean, but recurring complaints about cleaning and towel replacement warrant caution.

• Service: Helpful staff earn praise, though self-check-in and limited desk coverage can complicate problem-solving.

• Amenities: Wi-Fi and a rooftop pool; verify pool access and do not assume Hampton-style breakfast.

• Fees and surprises: Expedia lists a breakage deposit, paid offsite parking and charges for early arrival or late departure.
