Axel's take: 8.2/10

Clean rooms and helpful staff make this a strong budget base, with nighttime caveats. a no-frills 3-star in Mexico City's historic center, scored for what it is.

Continental Mexicano, now also marketed as VOS Mexicano, is a no-frills 3-star in Mexico City’s historic center. It’s a strong pick for travelers who want clean basics rather than extensive facilities. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, helpful staff and value, with overall ratings around the mid-eights. The Zócalo is roughly a 15-minute walk away, making daytime sightseeing straightforward.

The trade-offs are the immediate surroundings and sound insulation. Guests describe busy shopping streets that become much quieter after businesses close; we’d plan a taxi or ride-hail return after dark. Reports of noise carrying through the central atrium also make this less convincing for light sleepers. Parking information conflicts between the official site and Expedia, so drivers should confirm arrangements directly. Choose it for practical city exploring; skip it for guaranteed quiet or relaxed evening strolling.

• Best for: budget-conscious city explorers; short sightseeing stays; travelers prioritizing cleanliness and service

• Watch out for: atrium and neighboring-room noise; less comfortable surroundings after dark; conflicting parking information

• Location: Walkable to the Zócalo; guests are less enthusiastic about the immediate area after dark.

• Rooms: Simple private-bathroom rooms, including family options; sound insulation is a recurring drawback.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com ratings and recent Expedia reviews.

• Service: Helpful, friendly staff attract repeated praise; reception is listed as open around the clock.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, cable TV, housekeeping and luggage storage cover the essentials.

• Fees and surprises: The official site advertises free parking, while Expedia says none is offered; confirm before driving.
