#2 of 2 hotels in Indialantic & Melbourne Beach by Axel's take. Indialantic & Melbourne Beach is #3 of 6 places to stay in Melbourne. The best hotels in Indialantic & Melbourne Beach, ranked · Where to stay in Melbourne

Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong group beach escape, provided you choose the right home. An upscale vacation-home and condo community, not a conventional 2-star hotel, scored for what it is.

Harbor Island is an upscale vacation-home and condo community, not the basic 2-star hotel its listing suggests. We'd shortlist it for families sharing a beach break: three- to eight-bedroom layouts, equipped kitchens and shared waterfront amenities make staying together easy. Booking.com guests rate cleanliness and comfort particularly highly, while Expedia guests praise the homes and group-friendly setting. Many homes also have private pools; check the individual listing rather than assuming every property includes one.

The trade-off is vacation-rental logistics rather than full-service hotel convenience. Access arrangements draw occasional criticism on Expedia and Tripadvisor, though other guests praise responsive management. Confirm your arrival instructions beforehand. Pool heating, beach equipment and daily housekeeping are paid extras, and checkout is at 10 a.m. We'd skip it for a service-heavy resort stay, but it's a strong fit for self-sufficient groups.

  • Best for: Multigenerational family beach trips; Groups wanting kitchens and shared living space; Self-sufficient travelers

  • Watch out for: Amenities and views vary by home; Confirm entry instructions before arrival; Pool heat and several conveniences cost extra

  • Location: Gated Melbourne Beach community spanning oceanfront and riverfront settings, with beach access and a marina.

  • Rooms: Three- to eight-bedroom homes and condos; confirm the exact layout, view and private-pool provision.

  • Cleanliness: A clear strength in Booking.com and Expedia guest ratings.

  • Service: Management earns praise, but access-related complaints make advance arrival confirmation worthwhile.

  • Amenities: Shared pool, marina and beach access; private pools and entertainment rooms depend on the home.

  • Fees and surprises: Pool heat, equipment rentals and daily housekeeping are extras; select homes allow dogs for a fee; 10 a.m. checkout.
