Hotels in McAllenAn older budget 3-star near the airport and La Plaza Mall
6.6/10
Convenient shopping base with good breakfast, but rooms need more consistent upkeep.
This older budget 3-star is a practical base near McAllen Airport and La Plaza Mall, rather than a hotel we'd choose for the rooms. Hotels.com and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise friendly staff, convenient shopping and breakfast. Free parking and WiFi help its budget appeal, but overall guest ratings suggest an adequate stay rather than standout value.
The main compromise is inconsistent upkeep: recent Google and Tripadvisor reviews describe worn rooms, cleanliness lapses and plumbing or door problems, although other guests report clean, comfortable stays. There's no elevator, so request a ground-floor room if stairs are difficult. Choice advertises an outdoor pool and free airport transportation; confirm both before relying on them, since a 2026 Hotels.com guest reported no shuttle. We'd consider it for a short shopping trip, but skip it if dependable room condition is your priority.
Axel's opinion, from the hotel's website and recent guest reviews, scored for what the hotel is. Sources: Hotel website · Tripadvisor · Hotels.com · Booking.com · reviews.birdeye.com · Expedia. Reviewed Oct 10, 2026.

Cleanliness: Mixed reports: some recent guests find rooms clean, while others describe housekeeping lapses.
Service: Friendly staff are a recurring strength across Tripadvisor and Hotels.com reviews.
Amenities: Breakfast, parking and WiFi included; Choice also lists a pool, gym, restaurant and airport transportation.
Fees and surprises: A refundable deposit is listed; late checkout costs extra, and there is no elevator.
