Hotels in MazatlanA simple mid-range hotel across the road from Playa Norte
7.3/10
Good basic comfort, but waterfront disruption makes it a cautious pick right now.
Olas Altas Inn is a simple mid-range hotel across the road from Playa Norte, not a luxury spa resort. It’s a reasonable pick for an uncomplicated family break: recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise cleanliness and helpful staff, while the restaurant gets warm mentions. Expect practical rooms rather than polished interiors; some guests describe them as dated.
The bigger concern right now is outside: an October 8, 2026 sinkhole directly opposite prompted Malecón closures and emergency repairs, with access still restricted in October 9 reporting. Confirm arrival routes before booking. Guest reviews also flag nighttime music and traffic noise, and repeated surprise charges for in-room coffee. We’d skip it for a quiet retreat or an unrestricted waterfront stay until the repairs are resolved.

Best for: families seeking straightforward comfort; travelers prioritizing cleanliness over fancy interiors
Watch out for: Malecón sinkhole repairs and restricted access; nighttime music and traffic noise; reported charges for in-room coffee
Location: Across from Playa Norte; October 2026 sinkhole damage currently complicates waterfront access.
Rooms: Generally clean and practical, with dated interiors mentioned by some guests; noise can undermine sleep.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength in recent guest feedback, though not every stay is trouble-free.
Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn frequent praise; problem handling is less consistent.
Amenities: Outdoor and children’s pools, restaurant, spa and included parking; confirm pool reopening after its advertised late-September closure.
Fees and surprises: Several 2025–2026 guests report unexpected in-room coffee charges; clarify what is included before using it.
