Axel's take: 8.9/10

Stylish central luxury with excellent rooms, but quiet isn’t guaranteed. a contemporary 5-star hotel between Gran Vía and Puerta del Sol, scored for what it is.

Thompson Madrid is a contemporary 5-star for travelers who want Madrid on their doorstep rather than a secluded retreat. We’d put it high on the shortlist for its comfortable rooms, generous bathrooms and rooftop. Recent Tripadvisor reviews displayed by Hyatt and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, helpful staff and breakfast; Booking.com’s strong overall scores reinforce that picture.

The trade-off is the lively setting: street and bar noise reaches some rooms, so light sleepers should request a quieter position. The rooftop pool is seasonal, and Expedia currently lists its annual closure from October 20 to May 15—confirm directly before planning around it. Older construction complaints need context: Madrid’s council confirmed Plaza del Carmen had reopened by June 2025. We’d choose it for a stylish city break, not guaranteed hush.

• Best for: couples on a stylish city break; first-time visitors exploring on foot; travelers who prioritize design and dining

• Watch out for: street and bar noise in some rooms; seasonal rooftop-pool closure; breakfast and parking can cost extra

• Location: Excellent sightseeing base between Sol and Gran Vía, with shops, restaurants and metro nearby.

• Rooms: Contemporary, comfortable rooms and well-liked bathrooms; noise insulation gets mixed feedback.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest feedback and Booking.com’s category ratings.

• Service: Recent guests generally praise friendly, helpful staff, especially at reception and breakfast.

• Amenities: Guest-only seasonal rooftop pool, restaurants and bars, complimentary Wi-Fi and a 24-hour gym.

• Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion; parking and pets carry charges. Expedia lists the pool closed October 20–May 15.
