Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong sightseeing base with helpful staff, but don't count on a rooftop pool. a modern, informal 4-star city hotel just off Gran Vía, scored for what it is.

This modern, informal 4-star just off Gran Vía is a strong pick for travelers who put location and friendly service ahead of full-service luxury. Recent Expedia and Trip.com guests repeatedly praise clean, comfortable rooms and helpful staff, while Booking.com ratings reinforce those strengths. Callao’s shops, theaters and Metro are close at hand. Expedia lists an October 2025 renovation, and Marriott now highlights refreshed social spaces and new Gran Vía-view rooms.

The compromises are mostly about space and facilities: some guests find rooms compact, and reviews on both Expedia and Trip.com describe an awkward lobby-level breakfast setup. More importantly, older photos show a rooftop bar and splash pool that guests subsequently reported closed; Marriott’s current amenity list advertises neither. Confirm directly if either matters. We'd choose it for an active city break, but skip it for a pool-focused stay or traditional luxury.

• Best for: first-time Madrid visitors; couples on sightseeing breaks; travelers prioritizing walkability and Metro access

• Watch out for: rooftop and pool availability unconfirmed; some rooms feel compact; breakfast area shares the lobby space

• Location: Excellent for Gran Vía shopping, theaters and nearby Callao and Santo Domingo Metro stations.

• Rooms: Modern and generally comfortable; some guests find them compact, and views depend on room category.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across current guest ratings and recent reviews.

• Service: Helpful, welcoming reception staff draw repeated praise across booking sites.

• Amenities: 24-hour gym, lobby bar and grab-and-go food; no pool or rooftop terrace listed by Marriott currently.

• Fees and surprises: Breakfast costs extra, pets incur a nightly fee, and parking is off-site; verify rooftop access before booking.
