7.6/10
A good ferry-trip base with lake views, but rooms need updating.
Hamilton Inn Select is an older, independent 3-star beachfront hotel whose strongest selling point is its Lake Huron setting. It's a good pick for Mackinac Island trips: ferry docks, restaurants and downtown shops are walkable, and lakefront rooms offer balconies or direct beach access. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spacious, clean rooms and friendly staff. An indoor pool, hot tub, included breakfast and free parking round out a practical family base.
The trade-off is uneven upkeep rather than missing amenities. Recent guests describe dated decor, occasional musty smells and maintenance niggles; some on both Tripadvisor and Expedia report missed housekeeping. Breakfast earns mixed reactions, so treat it as convenient fuel rather than a highlight. We'd choose a lakefront room for a short stay, but skip this if fresh interiors and consistently polished service matter more than location.

Best for: Mackinac Island day-trippers; Families wanting beach and pool access; Couples booking a lakefront balcony
Watch out for: Dated decor and uneven maintenance; Occasional musty smells and missed housekeeping; Basic breakfast with mixed reviews
Location: On Lake Huron, within walking distance of ferry docks, restaurants and downtown shops.
Rooms: Often spacious; lakefront categories add outdoor space, but decor and fixtures show their age.
Cleanliness: Mostly positive feedback, with recurring exceptions involving mustiness and housekeeping consistency.
Service: Friendly staff are a common strength; complaint handling gets more mixed feedback.
Amenities: Private beach, indoor pool, hot tub, gym and included breakfast; advertised waterparks are offsite.
Fees and surprises: Parking is free; Booking.com lists an environmental fee, and a recent Tripadvisor guest reports an unreturned-key charge.
