The Adelphi is a historic 3-star offering budget-level comfort behind a grand Edwardian frontage, minutes from Lime Street station. We'd consider it for a short, location-first stay, not a special occasion. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests praise spacious rooms, impressive public areas and helpful staff; some report refreshed bathrooms and surprisingly comfortable stays. Its reputation isn't the whole story, but neither is the grandeur a guarantee of quality.

The drawback is inconsistency: dated bedrooms, maintenance problems, variable housekeeping and nighttime noise recur across guest accounts. Service also ranges from friendly to unhelpful when problems arise. The hotel currently lists Crompton's Restaurant & Bar as closed for refurbishment, although Jenny's and other bars remain available. We'd skip it if quiet sleep, modern finishes or reliably polished room standards matter more than character and convenience.
