Axel's take: 8.4/10

A strong off-Strip choice for clean rooms and entertainment, best with a car. a value-focused 3-star casino hotel on Boulder Highway, scored for what it is.

Sam’s Town is a value-focused 3-star casino hotel, not a Strip resort, and it delivers well in that lane. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean, spacious rooms and helpful staff. Bowling, a cinema, restaurants and the Mystic Falls indoor park give it more to do than a basic budget hotel. We’d pick it for an affordable, self-contained stay with easy parking.

The biggest compromise is location: Strip sightseeing means driving or paying for rides rather than stepping outside into the action. Budget for the mandatory nightly resort fee, a recurring frustration in Tripadvisor reviews. Rooms are non-smoking, but guests mention cigarette odors in public areas; don’t mistake it for a smoke-free property. We’d skip it for a walkable first Vegas trip or a polished luxury experience.

• Best for: budget-conscious travelers with a car; casino guests who prefer staying off-Strip; families wanting on-site activities

• Watch out for: driving or rides needed for Strip sightseeing; mandatory nightly resort fee; cigarette odors in public areas

• Location: Boulder Highway location suits drivers better than travelers seeking walkable Strip attractions.

• Rooms: Generally spacious and comfortable; some guests find mattresses and pillows due for replacement.

• Cleanliness: Clean rooms are a consistent strength across recent Expedia and Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff earn repeated praise; management says full housekeeping is every other day.

• Amenities: Bowling, cinema, dining, Mystic Falls and an outdoor pool; the official pool page lists year-round operation.

• Fees and surprises: Mandatory nightly resort fee; self-parking and valet are listed as complimentary.
