Axel's take: 7.3/10

Good value for spacious renovated rooms, less convincing for a seamless Vegas resort stay. a value-focused, off-Strip 4-star casino resort, scored for what it is.

Rio is a value-focused, off-Strip 4-star casino resort, not a luxury Hyatt experience. We'd consider it for the unusually spacious rooms, particularly the renovated Ipanema Tower. Expedia and Booking.com guests repeatedly praise room size and comfort, while recent Expedia reviews also highlight clean rooms and helpful staff. The refreshed food hall, seasonal pools and on-site shows give it enough substance for a stay beyond simply sleeping.

The catch is inconsistency: Tripadvisor guests report uneven housekeeping and maintenance, and long front-desk lines remain a recurring frustration. Choose an explicitly renovated room rather than assuming every category has been refreshed. There's a mandatory resort fee, smoking in much of the casino, and no hotel shuttle to the Strip. We'd skip it for polished four-star service or a first Vegas trip built around walking between Strip attractions.

• Best for: value-minded travelers wanting extra room; casino and show visitors; travelers with a car

• Watch out for: renovated and older room categories; off-Strip location with no hotel shuttle; resort fee and casino smoke

• Location: West of the Strip; better suited to drivers and rideshares than effortless Strip sightseeing.

• Rooms: Generously sized; explicitly book a renovated Ipanema room for the strongest option.

• Cleanliness: Recent Expedia feedback is largely positive, but Tripadvisor reports show housekeeping is not uniformly reliable.

• Service: Many guests praise individual staff, though check-in queues and inconsistent problem handling recur.

• Amenities: Casino, food hall, live shows, seasonal pools, a 24-hour gym and complimentary parking.

• Fees and surprises: Mandatory nightly resort fee and an incidental deposit; rooms are nonsmoking, but much of the casino permits smoking.
