Axel's take: 8.0/10

A strong Strip budget base, provided you can live with dated surroundings. A no-frills 3-star casino hotel in the middle of the Las Vegas Strip, scored for what it is.

Casino Royale is a no-frills 3-star casino hotel whose biggest strengths are location and value, not polish. Beside the Venetian, it puts restaurants, shows and neighboring casinos within easy reach without a sprawling resort trek. Free parking and no resort fee are meaningful advantages. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff and generally clean, practical rooms; we'd pick it for a trip spent mostly out exploring.

The trade-off is an aging property: worn finishes, occasional bathroom odors and uneven bed comfort appear in recent feedback. Rooms are nonsmoking, but guests report cigarette smoke in the casino, and some mention thin walls. The outdoor pool is small and seasonal, rather than a resort attraction. Hard Rock construction across the Strip is another consideration. We'd skip it for luxury, smoke sensitivity or a pool-centered holiday.

• Best for: Budget-conscious Strip explorers; Travelers bringing a car; Showgoers prioritizing location

• Watch out for: Dated finishes and occasional room odors; Casino smoke and variable room noise; Hard Rock construction across the Strip

• Location: Central Strip beside the Venetian, with convenient access to shows, dining and neighboring casinos.

• Rooms: Practical rooms with refrigerators and coffee makers; dated finishes and mixed mattress feedback.

• Cleanliness: Mostly positive recent feedback, with a smaller recurring thread of stale or bathroom odors.

• Service: Friendly, helpful front-desk staff are a consistent strength across guest-review sites.

• Amenities: Small seasonal outdoor pool, fitness room, casino and casual dining; not a full resort experience.

• Fees and surprises: No resort fee and free parking; a card-based incidental hold still applies, and cash is not accepted.
