#5 of 6 hotels in Bijou by Axel's take. Bijou is #5 of 6 places to stay in Lake Tahoe. The best hotels in Bijou, ranked · Where to stay in Lake Tahoe

Axel's take: 6.4/10

A convenient budget base, but room condition and service are inconsistent. a basic 2-star motel near the beach, scored for what it is.

Hotel Elevation is a basic 2-star motel whose strongest selling point is its South Lake Tahoe location: the beach, restaurants and Ski Run Marina are within walking distance. We'd consider it for a short, budget-minded trip rather than a stay built around hotel comforts. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests praise the convenient setting, and many report clean rooms and helpful staff. Free parking is another practical plus.

The catch is consistency. Recent Expedia reviews describe both remodeled rooms and decidedly dated ones, with recurring maintenance shortcomings and uneven bathroom cleaning. Several guests also report an unattended reception desk and phone-assisted check-in; Tripadvisor reviews flag noise from neighboring rooms. Breakfast is available next door rather than included. We'd skip it if reliable housekeeping, quiet nights or an always-staffed front desk matter more than keeping costs down.

Best for: budget-minded short stays; travelers spending most days outdoors
Watch out for: uneven room upkeep and cleaning; reception may be unattended; noise from neighboring rooms
Location: Walkable to the beach, dining and Ski Run Marina; Heavenly Village is farther away.
Rooms: Basic rooms with mixed condition; the official site lists microwaves and refrigerators in king rooms.
Cleanliness: Many guests report clean rooms, but bathroom cleaning and upkeep are not consistently reliable.
Service: Helpful staff earn praise, though several guests describe phone-assisted check-in without anyone at reception.
Amenities: Free parking and Wi-Fi; no included breakfast, and no elevator.
Fees and surprises: Dog fees and early-check-in or late-checkout charges apply; Trip.com also lists a refundable deposit.
