#3 of 6 hotels in Bijou by Axel's take. Bijou is #5 of 6 places to stay in Lake Tahoe. The best hotels in Bijou, ranked · Where to stay in Lake Tahoe

Axel's take: 7.7/10

A good-value Tahoe base with friendly staff, comfortable beds and few extras. a no-frills 2-star motel near the lake in South Lake Tahoe, scored for what it is.

Bluebird Day Inn & Suites is a simple 2-star motel, not a lakeside resort, and we'd consider it a good-value base for days outdoors. Booking.com and recent Expedia guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds, clean rooms and helpful staff. The lake, restaurants and groceries are within walking distance, while free parking, room fridges and microwaves make short stays practical. The hotel's outdoor fire pit and picnic area add somewhere to unwind beyond the room.

The trade-off is an older property with limited extras. Some guests describe compact rooms, tired finishes and unreliable Wi-Fi; recent feedback is generally warmer about the staff and beds than the facilities. We'd skip it for a polished resort stay or dependable work-from-hotel setup. Expect a damage deposit, and confirm pet arrangements directly: the official site welcomes pets for a fee, but Expedia's policy conflicts.

Best for: budget-minded outdoor travelers; short lake and ski trips; travelers who value friendly service over extras
Watch out for: some compact rooms and tired finishes; Wi-Fi reliability complaints; damage deposit and conflicting pet policies
Location: Walkable to the lake, restaurants and groceries; not directly on the beach.
Rooms: Comfortable beds, fridges and microwaves; room size and finish draw mixed feedback.
Cleanliness: Generally praised in recent reviews, though isolated housekeeping lapses remain.
Service: Friendly, accommodating staff are a consistent strength across sources.
Amenities: Free parking and Wi-Fi; the official site lists a fire pit, picnic tables and grills.
Fees and surprises: Damage deposit required; pet fees apply according to the hotel, despite conflicting Expedia information.
