Axel's take: 7.7/10
A practical budget base near downtown, with comfortable beds but limited service. a no-frills 2-star motel near downtown Lake Placid, scored for what it is.
Maple Leaf Inn is a no-frills 2-star motel, and we'd consider it for a simple Lake Placid stay rather than a hotel-centered vacation. Recent Expedia, Hotels.com and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean, roomy accommodation, comfortable beds and the walk into downtown. Free parking adds value, and larger two-room layouts make it useful for families who mainly need somewhere to sleep between outings.
The trade-offs are real: check-in is remote, parking can require tight parallel maneuvers, and several guests report weak shower pressure or inconsistent hot water. Communication is often straightforward, but getting help when something fails receives mixed feedback. Crucially, Hotels.com lists the swimming pool as closed through September 21, 2027, subject to change. We'd skip it if a staffed front desk, reliable pool access or polished facilities matter more than location and basic comfort.
-
Best for: budget-minded couples; families seeking larger room layouts; travelers spending most days outdoors

-
Rooms: Often described as spacious with comfortable beds; bathroom condition and water pressure vary.
-

-
