Axel's take: 8.1/10
A stylish downtown base, with strong cleanliness but imperfect soundproofing. a renovated mid-range boutique hotel on Lake Placid’s Main Street, scored for what it is.
Grand Adirondack is a renovated mid-range boutique hotel, now in Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio, whose biggest advantage is its Main Street location. It’s a strong pick for exploring Lake Placid on foot rather than spending all day at a resort. Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise the clean, attractive rooms, and staff feedback is mostly positive. The seasonal Cloudsplitter rooftop bar adds lake and mountain views, although the hotel has no private lakefront access.
The trade-offs are practical: paid, limited valet parking and recurring reports of footsteps, hallway noise and street sounds. August 2026 guests on both Expedia and Tripadvisor reported passenger-elevator outages requiring the service elevator; confirm repairs if accessibility matters. Some spring guests also reported inconsistent hot water. We’d choose it for a walkable village stay, but light sleepers and travelers wanting direct waterfront access should look elsewhere.
-
Best for: couples exploring the village; travelers who prioritize walkability; dog owners
-
Watch out for: street and between-room noise; limited paid valet parking; confirm elevator repairs
-
Location: Central Main Street, convenient for shops, restaurants and Mirror Lake walks; no private waterfront.
-
Rooms: Attractive renovated rooms and spacious suites, but sound insulation is a recurring weakness.
-
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Expedia and Tripadvisor feedback.
-
Service: Mostly friendly and helpful, with some uneven front-desk and problem-handling reports.
-
Amenities: Marcy restaurant and bar, seasonal rooftop bar and fitness center; Marriott lists twice-weekly housekeeping.
-
Fees and surprises: Valet and pets incur fees; breakfast inclusion depends on the booking, and elevator repair status needs checking.
