#8 of 9 hotels in Bukit Bintang by Axel's take. Bukit Bintang is #1 of 6 places to stay in Kuala Lumpur. The best hotels in Bukit Bintang, ranked · Where to stay in Kuala Lumpur

Axel's take: 7.7/10

Generous rooms and warm hospitality, but the five-star finish is showing its age. a traditional 5-star city hotel near Pavilion and Conlay MRT, scored for what it is.

Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur is a traditional 5-star hotel we'd choose for space, Malaysian character and location rather than polished contemporary luxury. Booking.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the roomy accommodation, helpful staff and extensive breakfast buffet. Pavilion shopping and nearby Conlay MRT make it a practical sightseeing base, while the outdoor pool adds appeal for families. It's a good-value option if those strengths matter more than immaculate finishes.

The compromise is condition: recent Tripadvisor and Agoda reviews describe tired furnishings and maintenance shortcomings, alongside plenty of satisfied stays. Cleanliness is generally rated positively, but room-condition complaints are too recurrent to ignore at this level. We'd skip it for a special occasion where every detail needs to feel fresh; choose it for a comfortable city stay with realistic expectations.

  • Best for: families wanting spacious rooms; shoppers and MRT-based sightseers; travelers who enjoy traditional hotel character

  • Watch out for: dated furnishings and uneven maintenance; less polish than the five-star label suggests; parking charges and an arrival deposit

  • Location: Near Pavilion and Conlay MRT; convenient for shopping and exploring central Kuala Lumpur.

  • Rooms: Spacious and comfortable, but recurring reports flag worn furnishings and maintenance issues.

  • Cleanliness: Mostly positive guest ratings, with some recent complaints about room upkeep.

  • Service: Helpful, courteous staff are a consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and Tripadvisor.

  • Amenities: Outdoor pool, children's pool, gym and spa; the breakfast buffet earns repeated praise.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking costs extra; Booking.com lists a refundable arrival deposit and tourism tax for foreign guests.
