#5 of 9 hotels in Chow Kit & Jalan TAR by Axel's take. Chow Kit & Jalan TAR is #5 of 6 places to stay in Kuala Lumpur. The best hotels in Chow Kit & Jalan TAR, ranked · Where to stay in Kuala Lumpur

Axel's take: 8.2/10

Comfortable rooms and shopping convenience outweigh awkward parking and uneven soundproofing. a value-focused mid-range city hotel near SOGO, scored for what it is.

IDEAS Kuala Lumpur is a value-focused mid-range city hotel, and a strong pick for travelers prioritizing space and convenience over polished luxury. Recent Trip.com and Expedia guests repeatedly praise comfortable beds, roomy accommodation, helpful staff and breakfast. SOGO, nearby eateries and rail connections make it a practical base for shopping and exploring. We'd choose it for a comfortable city break without paying for luxury extras.

The compromises are worth knowing: guests mention traffic, train and neighboring-room noise, while several Tripadvisor reviewers describe tight parking and an awkward route between the car park and lobby, including stairs and reliance on buggy assistance. Service attracts more mixed feedback there than on larger booking sites. We'd skip it if uninterrupted sleep or straightforward step-free parking access is essential.

  • Best for: value-minded city-break travelers; SOGO and Jalan TAR shoppers; travelers using rail and ride-hailing

  • Watch out for: traffic and neighboring-room noise; tight paid parking with awkward lobby access; less consistent service than a luxury hotel

  • Location: Convenient for SOGO, local food and nearby rail stations; location is a consistent guest highlight.

  • Rooms: Recent guests frequently praise spacious rooms and comfortable beds, but soundproofing is imperfect.

  • Cleanliness: Generally a strength across recent booking-site reviews, with occasional housekeeping misses rather than a dominant negative pattern.

  • Service: Usually described as friendly and helpful; the much smaller Tripadvisor sample is less consistent.

  • Amenities: Outdoor and children's pools, restaurants and free Wi-Fi are listed; the official site also advertises a fitness centre.

  • Fees and surprises: Parking is charged and access can involve stairs; confirm the route if mobility or heavy luggage is a concern.
