Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong Old Town luxury pick, especially for its character and cellar spa. A historic five-star boutique hotel beside Kraków’s Main Market Square, scored for what it is.

Hotel Stary is a historic five-star boutique hotel just off Kraków’s Main Market Square, and a strong choice for a characterful city break. Its distinctive architecture and vaulted cellar spa give it more personality than a conventional luxury chain. Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, comfortable rooms and the location; recent reviews also repeatedly commend helpful staff and breakfast. We'd pick it for sightseeing with a proper wind-down afterward.

The main caveat is access to the rooftop bar: it's seasonal, and guests also report private-event closures, so don't make it the sole reason to book. Breakfast isn't included in every rate, and parking costs extra. We'd look elsewhere if a guaranteed rooftop evening or an all-inclusive-feeling luxury stay matters most.

Best for: Couples on a luxury city break; Old Town sightseeing on foot; Travelers who enjoy historic design and a spa
Watch out for: Seasonal rooftop bar with occasional private-event closures; Breakfast not included in every rate; Paid parking
Location: Just off Main Market Square, with Old Town sights and restaurants readily walkable.
Rooms: Guests repeatedly praise spacious, comfortable rooms with distinctive styling.
Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent guest feedback.
Service: Recent reviews are predominantly positive about helpful, courteous staff.
Amenities: Complimentary wellness access includes two cellar pools, saunas, a salt chamber and gym; treatments cost extra.
Fees and surprises: Check breakfast inclusion, parking arrangements and rooftop availability before booking.
