Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong downtown pick for art, comfortable rooms and easy arena access. an art-focused, upscale 4-star in downtown Indianapolis, scored for what it is.

The Alexander is an art-focused, upscale 4-star in downtown Indianapolis, and we'd put it high on the list for a game, concert or design-minded weekend. Its 2026 renovation refreshed guestrooms and public spaces, with a new suites wing completing the work in October. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the welcoming staff, cleanliness and distinctive artwork. Gainbridge Fieldhouse is an especially convenient walk.

The trade-offs are mostly practical: attached parking is expensive, and breakfast packages deserve a close read rather than assuming everything is covered. Some guests mention street or train noise, so light sleepers should request a quieter room. We'd choose it for character and event access, but skip it if inexpensive parking and an all-in breakfast matter more than design.

• Best for: basketball and concert trips; design-minded weekend travelers; downtown business stays

• Watch out for: expensive self-parking and valet; check breakfast-package inclusions; street or train noise in some rooms

• Location: Downtown CityWay location, particularly convenient for Gainbridge Fieldhouse and walkable to Lucas Oil Stadium.

• Rooms: Refreshed in 2026; recent guests praise comfort and modern styling, though some report outside noise.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength in guest feedback, including recent post-renovation reviews.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff receive repeated praise across Tripadvisor and Expedia.

• Amenities: Plat 99 serves breakfast and cocktails; Nesso offers Italian dining, alongside a 24-hour fitness center.

• Fees and surprises: Self-parking, valet and pets incur charges; confirm breakfast credits and service-charge coverage.
