Axel's take: 8.7/10

A strong downtown base with reliable basics, helpful staff and breakfast included. a practical 3-star downtown hotel beside White River State Park, scored for what it is.

This practical 3-star Fairfield is a strong pick for downtown Indianapolis if you care more about clean rooms and convenience than hotel atmosphere. White River State Park and museums are across the street, with the convention center within walking distance. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise cleanliness, helpful staff and the included breakfast. We'd choose it for a short sightseeing, concert or convention trip.

The compromises are mostly practical: some rooms feel compact, parking costs extra, and elevators can bottleneck when convention crowds head out. Marriott also lists housekeeping every other day, worth knowing on longer stays. The skywalk route through the garage and JW Marriott is useful but indirect. We'd skip it if spacious rooms, daily cleaning or a more upscale hotel experience are priorities.

• Best for: convention attendees; museum and park visitors; short downtown event stays

• Watch out for: paid parking, with self-parking subject to availability; compact rooms and peak-time elevator waits; housekeeping every other day

• Location: Across from White River State Park and museums; walkable to the convention center.

• Rooms: Generally comfortable and well kept, though some guests find their rooms compact.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent Expedia, Tripadvisor and Booking.com feedback.

• Service: Repeated praise for helpful front-desk, breakfast and parking staff.

• Amenities: Included breakfast, fitness center and guest laundry cover the practical essentials.

• Fees and surprises: Self-parking and valet cost extra; Marriott lists alternate-day housekeeping.
