Axel's take: 7.8/10

A strong central base with skyline breakfasts, but uneven rooms and service. An upscale city-center business hotel with a rooftop restaurant, scored for what it is.

Flemings is an upscale city-center business hotel whose location and rooftop restaurant are its strongest selling points. We'd pick it for a Frankfurt short break: Eschenheimer Tor's U-Bahn is outside, shopping is walkable, and breakfast at seventh-floor Occhio d'Oro comes with skyline views. Booking.com and Expedia guests generally praise comfort and cleanliness; the working paternoster lift adds character.

The compromise is consistency rather than location. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia reviews flag worn carpets, occasional cooling problems and uneven reception service, alongside plenty of helpful-staff reports. Some glass showers offer little privacy, and recent guests say daily housekeeping must be requested. Check the exact room category, particularly for singles. We'd skip it for a polished luxury stay or an on-site spa: the hotel confirms only a small gym, with paid wellness facilities across the street.

• Best for: Car-free city breaks; Business travelers prioritizing location; Rooftop breakfast fans

• Watch out for: Uneven room condition and cooling; Limited privacy in some glass-shower layouts; Daily housekeeping requires requesting

• Location: U-Bahn outside; Zeil shopping and Hauptwache are an easy walk.

• Rooms: Comfort generally scores well, but recent guests report worn carpets and disappointing single rooms; check the layout.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall cleanliness ratings, with some room-specific lapses; guests report alternate-day cleaning unless requested.

• Service: Many helpful-staff reports, tempered by recurring complaints about reception and problem handling.

• Amenities: Rooftop restaurant, free Wi-Fi and a small gym; wellness facilities are across the street and cost extra.

• Fees and surprises: Cashless hotel; city tax and parking cost extra, and garage spaces cannot be reserved.
