#7 of 9 hotels in Ostend by Axel's take. Ostend is #4 of 7 places to stay in Frankfurt. The best hotels in Ostend, ranked · Where to stay in Frankfurt

Axel's take: 6.9/10

A workable budget base, but housekeeping needs more consistency. a budget chain hostel with private rooms and dorms in Frankfurt’s Ostend, scored for what it is.

a&o Frankfurt Ostend is a budget chain hostel with private rooms and dorms, not a conventional full-service hotel. We'd consider it for a short, low-cost stay: the nearby tram makes sightseeing straightforward, and guests regularly praise helpful staff and good value. Booking.com and Expedia both put the overall experience in “good” territory, although Tripadvisor is less enthusiastic.

The main reservation is inconsistent housekeeping. Recent reviews across several sites describe missed cleaning, dirty bedding or bathroom smells, alongside plenty of clean-room reports. Summer heat without air-conditioning is another recurring drawback. Guests also mention making some beds themselves, and laundry faults appear on more than one site. It's a reasonable option for flexible budget travelers; we'd skip it if dependable cleanliness and hotel-style service matter more than saving money.

  • Best for: budget travelers on short stays; backpackers comfortable with hostel basics; groups using public transport

  • Watch out for: inconsistent housekeeping and bathroom smells; hot rooms without air-conditioning; some beds require self-making

  • Location: Close to Schwedlerstraße tram stop; convenient transport rather than an old-town doorstep.

  • Rooms: Private rooms and shared dorms; basic comfort, with recurring summer heat complaints.

  • Cleanliness: Many guests report clean rooms, but missed cleaning and bathroom odors recur across sites.

  • Service: Staff often earn praise for friendliness; follow-through on cleaning requests is less reliable.

  • Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, a bar and breakfast are listed; recent guests on multiple sites report laundry faults.

  • Fees and surprises: Breakfast and limited parking cost extra; early check-in and late checkout carry additional charges.
