Axel's take: 8.3/10

Strong downtown comfort and friendly service, but the poolside nightlife can disrupt sleep. A lively, design-led 3-star hotel in downtown El Paso, scored for what it is.

Hotel Indigo is a design-led 3-star downtown hotel with more personality than a standard chain stay. We'd pick it for exploring central El Paso and enjoying a sociable pool-and-bar scene. Recent Expedia and Tripadvisor guests repeatedly praise clean rooms, welcoming staff and the convenient location; comfortable beds and distinctive decor also earn good feedback. The fifth-floor outdoor pool, Circa 1963 lounge and Mamacitas restaurant give you reasons to linger on-site.

The main catch is noise, not cleanliness. Guests on both sites describe loud poolside music reaching rooms, particularly on weekend nights, so request a room away from the pool without assuming silence is guaranteed. Hotel parking is paid valet-only, and breakfast isn't automatically included. It's a strong fit for a lively downtown break; we'd skip it if an early bedtime or reliably quiet room is the priority.

• Best for: Couples who enjoy a lively hotel; Downtown sightseeing and events; Travelers who value friendly service

• Watch out for: Poolside music audible in some rooms; Paid valet-only hotel parking; Breakfast not automatically included

• Location: Walkable downtown base near San Jacinto Plaza, restaurants and cultural venues.

• Rooms: Distinctive decor and comfortable beds; rooms facing the pool are more exposed to music.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across recent guest feedback and major-site category ratings.

• Service: Recent reviews repeatedly praise welcoming, helpful front-desk and restaurant staff.

• Amenities: Fifth-floor outdoor pool, cocktail lounge, Mamacitas restaurant, fitness center and Wi-Fi.

• Fees and surprises: Hotel parking is paid valet-only; pets carry a fee, and breakfast depends on the booking.
