Axel's take: 7.2/10

A practical mall base, but dated rooms and noise limit the appeal. A no-frills 2-star across the street from West Edmonton Mall, scored for what it is.

West Edmonton Mall Inn is a no-frills 2-star whose strongest selling point is the mall across the street. We'd consider it for a shopping-and-attractions trip rather than a hotel-focused getaway. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the convenient location, with plenty also reporting clean rooms and friendly staff. Free continental breakfast and surface parking make it a practical budget choice.

The trade-offs are a tired building, recurring reports of noise from surrounding rooms, and uneven housekeeping—not universal problems, but worth weighing. Breakfast is basic, and guests mention a cramped breakfast room. Nearby Valley Line West LRT construction also complicates driving around the mall. We'd skip it if you're a light sleeper or want consistently fresh interiors; it works better for travelers spending most of their time out.

• Best for: Budget-conscious mall visitors; Families spending their days at mall attractions

• Watch out for: Noise between rooms and floors; Dated interiors and uneven housekeeping; Nearby Valley Line West LRT roadwork

• Location: Across the street from the mall, not inside it; nearby LRT construction affects area roads.

• Rooms: Simple rooms with air conditioning, mini-fridges and coffee makers; guests flag dated finishes and noise.

• Cleanliness: Many clean-room reports, but recent Tripadvisor guests also describe odors, stained towels and dirty common areas.

• Service: Frequently praised as friendly and helpful, though some guests report poor handling of requests.

• Amenities: Continental breakfast, Wi-Fi and surface parking included; no on-site pool or gym.

• Fees and surprises: Heated underground parking, pets and rollaway beds cost extra; confirm pet-room availability before booking.
