Axel's take: 8.6/10

A strong Docklands choice, with helpful staff and a properly equipped health club. a modern riverside 4-star in Dublin’s Docklands, scored for what it is.

The Spencer is a modern riverside 4-star in Dublin’s Docklands, strongest for conference trips, concerts and families who will actually use the pool. We’d pick it for dependable comfort rather than old-Dublin character. Recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise helpful staff, clean rooms and comfortable beds; Booking.com’s strong cleanliness and comfort scores reinforce that picture. The hotel’s refurbished health club adds an 18-metre pool, a substantial gym and a thermal suite.

The trade-off is being outside the historic sightseeing core: Temple Bar is roughly a 20-minute walk, although the nearby Luas helps. Some guests report traffic noise, so light sleepers should request a quieter room rather than assume a river-facing balcony guarantees restful nights. Parking costs extra and cannot be reserved. The hotel also mentions ongoing renovations without specifying their scope; ask what work overlaps your dates. Skip it if doorstep nightlife and historic atmosphere matter most.

• Best for: conference and business travelers; 3Arena concertgoers; families wanting a pool

• Watch out for: traffic noise in some rooms; paid parking with limited spaces; unspecified ongoing renovations

• Location: Convenient for the Convention Centre and 3Arena, with the Red Luas nearby; less immediate for historic Dublin.

• Rooms: Air-conditioned rooms with coffee machines; guests generally praise comfort, but views and noise exposure vary.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across Booking.com, Expedia and recent Tripadvisor feedback.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff are among the most consistently praised features.

• Amenities: Refurbished health club with pool, gym, sauna, steam room and hot tub; swimming caps and children’s hours apply.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and breakfast may cost extra; an incidental deposit applies, early arrival may incur a fee, and renovation scope is unclear.
