Axel's take: 8.2/10

A strong Docklands base for concerts and conferences, with some service inconsistency. a modern 4-star business hotel in Dublin’s Docklands, scored for what it is.

The Samuel is a modern 4-star in Dublin’s Docklands, and we'd pick it for a concert or conference rather than old-Dublin atmosphere. The Convention Centre and 3Arena are close, with the Luas across the road. Booking.com and Expedia guests strongly praise cleanliness and comfort, while recent reviews repeatedly highlight comfortable beds and a good breakfast. It delivers the practical comforts this class should provide.

The trade-off is location: this is the business-oriented waterfront, not the historic sightseeing core. Service also isn't uniformly polished; Tripadvisor includes repeated complaints about dismissive interactions and uneven room servicing, despite plenty of praise elsewhere. Parking is paid and off-site. We'd skip it if doorstep nightlife, traditional character or consistently attentive service matter more than modern rooms and event convenience.

• Best for: 3Arena concertgoers; Convention Centre delegates; Travelers comfortable using the Luas

• Watch out for: Outside the historic sightseeing core; Uneven service and room servicing; Paid off-site parking

• Location: Excellent for Docklands events; the main shopping streets are around 20–25 minutes away on foot.

• Rooms: Modern, air-conditioned rooms; comfortable beds draw consistent praise, but don't assume a river view.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall ratings on Booking.com and Expedia outweigh occasional reports of housekeeping misses.

• Service: Many helpful-staff reports, but repeated Tripadvisor complaints make consistency a weakness.

• Amenities: Gym, free Wi-Fi, café and bar-and-grill; breakfast is a recurring guest highlight.

• Fees and surprises: Nearby Convention Centre parking costs extra; early check-in and late checkout incur fees, and cards may be pre-authorized.
