Axel's take: 8.5/10

A characterful central base with excellent staff, but choose your room carefully. a historic 4-star boutique hotel in Temple Bar, scored for what it is.

The Fleet is a historic 4-star boutique hotel in Temple Bar, and a strong pick for exploring Dublin on foot. Its inviting, stained-glass lobby gives it more character than a standard city hotel, while Trinity College, shops and pubs are close by. Booking.com, Tripadvisor and Hotels.com guests consistently praise cleanliness and helpful staff; breakfast also earns repeated compliments. We'd choose it for a sociable city break rather than a full-service luxury stay.

Room selection matters. Smaller categories can feel cramped, and recent guests report both peaceful nights and disruptive street noise. Air-conditioning is not universal, although the hotel lists it in Elegance and Deluxe Double rooms. The historic layout also means stairs beyond the lift on some routes. Light sleepers should request a quiet room; anyone needing step-free access should confirm an adapted room and its exact access route before booking.

• Best for: couples on a Dublin city break; first-time visitors exploring on foot; travelers who enjoy historic interiors

• Watch out for: street noise varies by room; compact rooms and uneven air-conditioning provision; stairs on some routes beyond the lift

• Location: Highly walkable Temple Bar address near Trinity College, shopping and nightlife.

• Rooms: Comfortable but variable in size; confirm air-conditioning in your chosen category.

• Cleanliness: A consistent strength across guest-review sites, including recent verified stays.

• Service: Friendly, helpful staff receive sustained praise across several sites.

• Amenities: Characterful lobby lounge, Café 1920, breakfast, free Wi-Fi and a smoking terrace.

• Fees and surprises: Parking is paid and off-site; breakfast inclusion depends on your booking, and Hotels.com lists a refundable breakage deposit.
