Axel's take: 8.5/10

A stylish Dublin base with excellent basics, but fewer extras than four stars suggest. a design-led 4-star city hotel with compact rooms and streamlined service, scored for what it is.

Ruby Molly is a design-led 4-star city hotel that puts its effort into comfortable beds, smart interiors and a sociable bar rather than traditional full-service extras. It's a strong pick for a Dublin city break: Booking.com and Expedia guests consistently praise cleanliness, comfort and the walkable location north of the Liffey, roughly ten minutes from Temple Bar. The inviting lobby gives you somewhere appealing to unwind beyond the bedroom.

The trade-offs are compact rooms, glass showers with limited privacy, and no in-room fridge or kettle; shared galleys provide tea instead. Service earns plenty of praise, though Tripadvisor guests describe some frustrating check-ins. Guests also report construction across the road causing early-morning noise, so request a room away from the works and confirm their status. We'd skip it for colleagues sharing or anyone wanting spacious, full-service accommodation.

• Best for: couples on city breaks; solo sightseers; travelers who prefer design to extra facilities

• Watch out for: construction noise in rooms facing the works; compact rooms and limited shower privacy; streamlined rather than full-service amenities

• Location: Walkable north-of-Liffey base near shops, restaurants and Luas stops; some guests find the immediate streets scruffy.

• Rooms: Comfortable beds and effective air conditioning are strengths; smaller categories have limited space and open-plan shower layouts.

• Cleanliness: A clear strength across booking sites, despite occasional reports of missed cleaning details.

• Service: Usually friendly and helpful, but self-check-in and problem handling receive mixed feedback on Tripadvisor.

• Amenities: Around-the-clock bar, breakfast, free Wi-Fi and shared tea galleys; no full restaurant or pool.

• Fees and surprises: Cashless; breakfast costs extra unless included, parking is paid and off-site, and dogs require an eligible Wow Room plus a cleaning fee.
