Axel's take: 8.9/10

A strong apartment-style base if you prefer space and calm to city-centre bustle. A comfortable serviced-apartment hotel in leafy Ballsbridge, scored for what it is.

Premier Suites Dublin Ballsbridge is a serviced-apartment hotel rather than a conventional full-service stay, and it's a strong pick for longer visits. Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise spacious accommodation, comfortable beds, cleanliness and genuinely helpful staff. Choose a studio or apartment for proper cooking facilities; the executive rooms aren't equivalent self-catering options. The RDS and Aviva Stadium are handy, with buses outside for trips into central Dublin.

The trade-off is independence rather than daily hotel service: housekeeping is weekly, parking is limited and charged, and air conditioning isn't universal. Laundry facilities are useful, although guests on both Tripadvisor and Expedia have reported machines out of service. We'd choose it for a quieter, practical Dublin base; skip it if you want daily room servicing or sightseeing and nightlife immediately outside.

• Best for: Longer stays and self-catering travelers; Families booking larger apartments; RDS and Aviva Stadium visitors

• Watch out for: Weekly rather than daily housekeeping; Limited paid parking; Request air conditioning when booking

• Location: Leafy Ballsbridge near the RDS, with buses outside; central sightseeing requires a journey or longer walk.

• Rooms: Guests praise space and comfortable beds; book a studio or apartment for kitchen facilities and request air conditioning.

• Cleanliness: Strong overall: Expedia scores cleanliness 9.4/10, supported by repeated Tripadvisor praise.

• Service: Helpful, responsive staff are a consistent strength across Tripadvisor and Expedia; reception operates around the clock.

• Amenities: Free Wi-Fi, a 24-hour gym and complimentary guest laundry; some guests report unavailable laundry machines.

• Fees and surprises: Parking and additional cleaning cost extra; a security deposit may be required at check-in.
