#4 of 8 hotels in Portobello & Camden Street by Axel's take. Portobello & Camden Street is #5 of 11 places to stay in Dublin. The best hotels in Portobello & Camden Street, ranked · Where to stay in Dublin

Axel's take: 8.5/10

A strong canalside choice for comfort and character, with construction outside the door. a design-led 4-star beside the Grand Canal, scored for what it is.

NYX Portobello is a design-led 4-star from Leonardo Hotels, with colorful interiors and a sociable bar rather than a traditional Dublin-hotel feel. It’s a strong pick for a comfortable city break: recent Tripadvisor and Expedia guests repeatedly praise the beds, cleanliness and friendly staff, while Booking.com’s overall ratings reinforce that picture. Breakfast also gets consistent approval. Camden Street’s restaurants and pubs are close, and Temple Bar is roughly a 25-minute walk away.

The main compromises are space and disruption. Some rooms feel compact, so choose your category carefully. Portobello Harbour Square construction outside has prompted recent reports of morning noise and awkward access; the council schedules completion in 2027. There’s no on-site parking, either. We’d skip it if doorstep sightseeing, generous room space or reliably peaceful mornings matter more than character and neighborhood nightlife.

  • Best for: couples on a city break; Camden Street dining and nightlife; travelers who enjoy bold design

  • Watch out for: Portobello Harbour Square construction; some compact rooms; no on-site parking

  • Rooms: Comfortable beds, air-conditioning, mini-fridges and coffee machines; room sizes vary.

  • Cleanliness: Strong overall feedback across major sites, with occasional housekeeping misses.

  • Service: Friendly, helpful staff are one of the most consistent positives in recent reviews.

  • Amenities: Restaurant, lively bar, gym and free Wi-Fi; breakfast is available.

  • Fees and surprises: Cashless; breakfast may cost extra, parking is off-site, and square works are scheduled through 2027.
